After hours of chasing muskies on the lake, we enjoyed a little lunch break at Tonka Grill. Service was nice and friendly, and eating the delicious ribs, while watching the Vikings win really made my day. Worth the price for sure!

Wish I could rate 0, or -1. 32.50 for a takeout order of "the stacker", appetizer wings, and a sprite. So I'm not sure where the claims of it being affordable are coming from. They made me wait on hold for 10minutes although when I got into the shop I learned there was quite literally nobody in there besides employees. Asked for extra sauce on my pulled pork and got none. Like no sauce at all. Maybe they thought I said hold the sauce? Still ruined the sandwich for me. Add to all of this the terrible attitude of the cashier and I can honestly say this is the most disappointed I've ever been when trying a new place to eat. I won't be back.

I have eaten several times with my bike club and feel this place is a gem. Really good ribs! Other tasty choices as well. If you have room, she has delicious pies for dessert. Great service, fun restaurant, I'll definitely go back!!

What a find. Ok. This place is known for its smoke house ribs and chicken. I absolutely loved every bite. Plus affordable. The bill for three was still $50. The atmosphere is quaint but nothing to brag about, but over looking a lake saves that. Parking is the only negative. It's a bit hidden and a little spooky. Overall I WILL be back for more.

This was the first restaurant my boyfriend and I went to when we moved to Minnesota, and it was one of the best burgers I have had in my life. We have been back several times since, with family and friends, and it never disappoints. And if you go definitely do not miss out on the delicious homemade BBQ sauce or the to die for desserts!

I ordered the steak sandwich for lunch. I was expecting, y'know, a sandwich: some condiments, some cheese, maybe some sauteed onions. What I got was an unseasoned limp steak stuck between two pieces of dry toast, with five pickles and a piece of lettuce on the side. It was so dry and bland, I called back to make sure they hadn't forgotten to add the toppings. They assured me that what I was served was what they were offering. For $10.50, I expected a little more effort and flavor. Never going back.

1st time here, the Lake Minnetonka view was great, the baby back ribs were a little tough, the beef ribs were good and the coconut shrimp with Mango salsa was excellent. Baked beans and coleslaw were nothing special. When we got here we were the only people in the place so that worried me a little, but others trickled in and out while I was here. Decor was old dining tables and chairs and a little funky smell. If I go back, it will be in the summer do I could enjoy the lake more.

I love barbeque and have tried many different places. This place now goes on top! I had the texas style ribs plate with texas toast, coleslaw, and homemade potato salad. After beimg informed that it was my first time, the waitress gave me a sample of the pulled pork. Ohhhh so good! This place had excellent BBQ, service, and insanely good homemade deserts (I had blueberry pie).

Tonka Grill & BBQ is a definite favorite. The baby back ribs are the best! Burgers and other selections have also never disappointed. Homemade pies - especially the cream pies on weekends - are a special touch. Just about as good as it gets! This is a family owned and operated place. There's very few of those around and this is one worth checking out and supporting.

The food here is fantastic. Never have we been disappointed with what we get. The place is a bit of a dive, you get what you pay for, don't expect anything fancy. With that - don't expect decent service. You often have to ask for refills, remind them it's time for the check, etc. The bread pudding here is the best in town! No raisin either!!!!!! Cook walked out on them during father's day brunch, made for slim pickings on the buffet. We never received an apology from the owner, just her pure anger at the cook. The remaining staff in the kitchen did their best at keeping up and providing food, hats off to them. We would have been cool, if we would have just received a "hey this is what's up, I'm sorry." vs. "cook walked out, we are doing the best we can." Cinnamon rolls were good though.

I stumbled across this quaint restaurant as I was driving around Lake Minnetonka. Best BBQ around! I had the 1/2 rack of ribs and my husband had the pork stacker sandwich and it was FANTASTIC!! The ribs were succulent and the pork stacker was huge! Juicy and delicious. Both meals came with Texas toast and 2 sides. There were many sides to choose from and they all seemed homemade. The service was great. Fast and friendly. Price were good also AND they serve wine! :) Overall a great experience and I have been back a few times since. I even brought my in-laws there who were in town from Texas....where they know BBQ. They loved it too!

Very underrated place. This place is about the food, and the folks who run this place know their BBQ. It is all smoked with great balance, and the cuts of meat they choose are top-notch. Compare one of their ribs to, say, famous daves, and you would note there is more meat of higher quality at Tonka. It all starts with not skimping on the meat, and these guys don't. I would go straight to the pork ribs. There is really no reason to get anything else, unless you are there for Sunday brunch when you should try a little of everything. Some posters have complained about the inside decor. this is a bbq joint. The inside isn't supposed to be pretty. The food is just supposed to be great, and it is.

Tried this restaurant last night and was sadly disappointed. It does have a good view of Lk Mtka but our food was pathetic. Salad was iceberg lettuce with unripened tomatoes. My ribs were tough and my husband's were also bad and we each got different kinds of ribs. His beans were like canned beans with added mustard for flavor. I don't know why people say this place has good food.

My parents live on Lake Minnetonka and this is their favorite Sunday buffet in the area. Affordable, dependable taste and service. They keep bringing out fresh items. Mostly just keep to breakfast foods but recently added meatballs and chicken wings. I've only eaten the Sunday brunch buffet, so can't comment on the regular lunch menu.

Love it. Great food, good prices, we were treated as if we came to their house for dinner, simply great experience.

Horrible service... The blonde 50 some year old waitress was so rude, My family and I actually got up and left before ordering. Ill never go back, and I hope if anyone decides to go- they don't get that offensive waitress. This is my first negative review for a place.

OK, so I admit I am a fan of the local, family run business. Add to that the fact I hate the burbs for the chain restaurants and tasteless examples of standard American flair. Here is something that fits my fancy just right. On the shores of beautiful Lake Minnetonka (well across the street at least) sit a small family run business that was well worth the drive. I have driven by and boated past for years and finally fit my fancy to stop in for dinner one night. I had heard that this place had been named for the best ribs in the area and with the Famous Daves and Market Bar-b-que of the worlds in the area I figured there must be something there. I think I was right. I ordered the Pork baby back ribs. I did this knowing I am a bit of a rib snob. I am more often than not disappointed with ribs I have a most places. If you've read any of my other reviews, the best ribs in the State are served in my backyard. These I must admit though were very good. They were nicely smoked, meaty yet very tender and they were served "dry" which you don't always see, with the sauce on the side. Now I will admit I took the sauce for gravy and poured it right over my fries (don't know what I was thinking other than it was dark sauce and I love gravy on fries). The sauce was very rich and nice and the ribs really didn't need it. They were very good by themselves and the fries rocked. That is a topic in itself; the fries were fantastic. I love good wedge cut fries and these were really crispy even after I poured the sauce on them. I liked the ribs and would go back for them but I would go back a lot for the fries. If you're in the area it's a nice break from some of the other overpriced, under serviced places to eat (Fletcher's). Next time I may try a burger and will definitely be having the fries with that! Tonka Grill & BBQ is a great no-frills locally-owned restaurant. The food is great. The portions are large and the wait-staff is wonderful. They specialize in BBQ and do it really well - I highly recommend the pork ribs. Also, keep an eye out for the fresh from the kitchen homemade desserts - it changes everyday. In terms of clientele, it's a nice mix of locals, regulars, and frequent take-out orders. The decor is simple and lets the food shine.

The only reason there's one star being left is because 0 was not an option....this was definitely the worst restaurant experience I've had in the last few years, if not more. I am so confused as to the standards of the people leaving the other reviews, I feel as though my standards are really not that high but I was horribly disappointed in this place. Outside it smells amazing, once you enter you realize you might not be in a place where the prices vs the environment make sense...yeah your on the lake but can't you try to make the inside maybe look a little nicer? That aside there were many other problems. I stopped in the bathroom first and the toilet paper dispenser fell onto me when I went to pull some off, it was held on by scotch tape. When we entered we heard right away about how their rush had just ended, there were 3 waitresses-5 tables (down to 2 by the time left) we were seated fast and our order was taken in a timely manner, we were brought water but it was never refilled, the table was dirty, my spoon was dirty, one of the waitresses appeared to be intoxicated..there were lots of yelling from all of them and with the place next to empty it was incredibly obnoxious. We were served our food on 2 completely different looking plates, my salad consisted of iceberg lettuce(mostly white with a few soggy brown pieces) with a couple chunks of tomato and was in a cheap looking plastic bowl from a hospital in the 80s, the rest of my food was improperly cooked, my other half got the "stacker" (like a pulled pork) sandwich and it seemed as though the pork was sitting in water and they just scooped it up and put it on the bun, the bottom of which was completely soggy by the time he got it, the bbq sauce was alright but for a bbq place nothing to write home about. The food did not taste good, end of story. We waited 10 minutes for our bill then waited for one of the other waitresses to finish up her tips for 3 or so minutes before ringing us up. Maybe I would've been better off with ribs and coleslaw.

We just came off the lake and were starving. We arrived 10 minutes before closing on Satuday night. Even though you could tell they were tired, the wait staff and cooks made us feel right at home. Great friendly service, and 3 excellent burgers. I had the Tonka Burger, my buddies had the Cajun, and we argued all the way home about which was better. The BBQ sauce was outstanding. I highly reccomend this freindly and fun place.
